About Us

Welcome to Kiamichi Veterinary Clinic!

We are a family owned and operated mixed animal practice located in McAlester, Oklahoma.  Dr. Melvin Crownover is a graduate of the School of Veterinary Medicine at Oklahoma State University.  Having grown up on small and large ranches in both Oklahoma and Texas prior to attending veterinary school, Dr. Crownover has always been around a mixed variety of animals.  Having grown up raising a variety of both large and small animals, he, along with his wife Erica and children, now enjoys raising livestock, in addition to caring for the welfare of the animal community in Southeastern Oklahoma.

Dr. Crownover graduated as valedictorian from his high schoolg senior class, and then with honors (cum laude) from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Animal Sciences.  He was accepted early to OSU's School of Veterinary Medicine at the end of his junior year of his undergraduate studies.  He earned different academic scholarships throughout his tenure in veterinary school, and he was privileged to work closely with many of the program's top professors and researchers on various bovine and equine theriogenology projects.  He graduated in 2012 with his DVM degree, and then worked for a year at a small practice in Miami, OK before coming to KVC in 2013.  His wife, Erica, is completing her LPC licensing, and she taught at McAlester Public Schools (and in other Oklahoma school districts while Dr. Crownover completed his DVM degree) before their children were born.

The founders of KVC are Dr. Ewell Center, and his wife, Marty.  A native of the area, Dr. Center built the original building and the practice in 1977.  After almost 40 years of continuous outstanding service to McAlester and the surrounding communities,         Dr. Center sold the practice to the Crownovers in 2014.  He now currently enjoys spending time with his family, but he can occasionally be seen at KVC.

Dr. Morgan Standridge recently graduated from Oklahoma State University's College

of Veterinary Medicine, and she joins Dr. Crownover and the KVC staff as a new

associate on June 10th. She was born and raised in McAlester, and following

graduation from high school, she began her higher education studies at Eastern

Oklahoma State College and then transferred to OSU as an animal science

pre-veterinary medicine major. While at Eastern, she began pursuing her love of

animal care by shadowing Dr. Crownover at the Clinic, something she would continue

to do for the next ten years. Also while at Eastern, she met her husband, Junior

Standridge, and they married in 2020. Soon after, she began veterinary school during

the pandemic, and excelled at her studies over the next four years. Dr. Standridge has

a special interest in small animal internal medicine, and she is dedicated to bettering

the health and well-being of all her future patients.

In addition to having been continuously encouraged by her husband and family,

Dr. Standridge would also like to acknowledge her two dogs, Cooper and Gunner, for

their patience and support throughout vet school.

Dr. Standridge is excited to be returning to her hometown as a continuing member of the KVC family, and we are confident that her knowledge and expertise will serve the pets and animals in our community well!
